Jacob Bieker
Guest Author & Senior Machine Learning Engineer
Jacob is a Senior Machine Learning Engineer with experience in geospatial foundation models, climate risk for infrastructure, and climate forecasting models. Previously, he was a Senior Machine Learning Research Engineer at Open Climate Fix, developing and deploying models for predicting satellite data and solar energy output. He also contributed to 3D modeling with LiDAR and image data at Scale AI. He holds a BSc in Physics and Computer Science from the University of Oregon and an MSc in Astronomy and Data Science from Leiden Observatory.
His expertise lies in applying machine learning to address climate change, improve weather forecasts, and enhance the efficiency of the electrical grid through solar energy nowcasting. He also researches galaxies, particularly high-redshift ones, to understand the universe's origins and explores machine learning applications in astronomy. In his free time, he enjoys hiking, skiing, and landscape and night sky photography.
